Jose Arguelles, the Closer of the Circle

Jose Arguelles, The Closer of the Circle.

Jose Arguelles, one of the most important world teachers has died on 23rd March 2011.  He was an artist, a writer, a spiritual teacher, a mystic, and a speaker at worldwide conferences.  He had a Phd in Art history and aesthetics and he was a professor of history at Prinecton University and at San Francisco State University for many years.  He wrote numerous books including “The Mayan Factor,” “Earth Ascending”, “The Law of Time” and many other books.   He had incredible gifts and a genius mentality, and he was able to combine his academic knowledge with the vision of a mystic.

But his greatest and most important work was the organising a world movement on August 16th and 17th 1987, named “The Harmonic Convergence”.  He called on people to gather at sacred places and other venues all over the world to work together for peace and world healing.  Many of us remember that day when people of all religions and of none, gathered together to unite in prayer and song and dance to help create a new and better world. It was an amazing success.

He had been given the date 2011 by Tony Shearer, a Native Mayan as the fulfillment of a prophecy that opened the portals to 2012.   The Harmonic Convergence was the beginning of a 25 year cycle for the closing of the dense materialistic age and the beginning of a new golden age at the December Equinox 2012 to a more enlightened ascended state of being and the start of a new cycle.
The Harmonic Convergence marks the fulfillment of all the ancient prophecies of transformation on Earth.

He studied Buddhism with the enlightened master, Trungpa Rinpoche but later he broke away form all organised religion to what he called U.R. Universal Religion.
At the age of fourteen, in 1953, he had a visionary experience on the top of the Pyramid Of The Sun, in Mexico.  He had many more of these experiences throughout his life.

For many years he pioneered the study of the Mayan culture and philosophy and especially The Mayan Calendar.  He gave a detailed perspective on the depths of the Mayan wisdom and how it contained prophecies of what would unfold for humanity at this time of  positive shift on Earth. He had direct contact for many years with Galactic Beings including the legendary Mayan, Paul Votan, the ancient Wizard King of Palenque.

On March 3rd 2002, Jose was honoured by nine Indigenous Elders on top of the Sun Pyramid in Teotihuacan, northwest of Mexico city, the same place where he had the vision at the age of fourteen.   The Mayan Elders called him "Valum Votan", The Closer of the Cycle and they presented him with a ceremonial staff.

He was a friend of many of the enlightened people around the world who are dedicating their lives to awakening humanity to the urgency of the imminent changes on earth and the power of this time.  His biography is called “2012, Biography of a Time Traveller” by Stephanie South.  I was reading his biography recently when I heard of his heart attack and sudden death.
He has been a regular speaker at conferences around the earth in recent years and DVD’s made at these events are available through the internet.  Only last year he was a speaker at The Prophets’ Conference in Vancouver.

The Mayans have started to share their wisdom with the world in recent times but Jose Arguelles was one of the first to bring this information to the general public with the introduction of the Harmonic Convergence.   Before that he was one of the organisers of Earth Day and The Whole Earth festival and other events.

His gift to humanity is immense and his importance on a world scale has yet to be assessed.  At a time when some books and especially films are portraying a horrific profile for 2012, the Mayans and Jose Arguelles are giving us a different picture – describing it as a time of immense opportunity to raise our consciousness and access spiritual abilities that are available at this unprecedented, momentous time on Earth.
